Menunda

Menunda(postponed), 2025 , as part of her residency at Studio Plesungan, Solo, is a re-performance of a Javanese ceremony Tedhak Siten, originally demonstrated for babies. Due to Maryam's disconnection with her Javanese heritage, she entered adulthood without knowing anything about her paternal roots. This performance is dedicated to her Javanese ancestors and her grandfather she never met since birth, thus, her 'postponed' ceremony. In said performance, she steps on colored sticky rice, steps on raw soil, paces around balancing a chicken cage on her shoulders, and climbs on a bamboo ladder. After the ritual, she washes her feet and face with rose water, and completes it with reading out a handwritten letter for her late grandfather.
